Top up your account
In order to spend Brixton Pounds by text or via the Brixton Pound app, you will need to have credit in your online B£ account. Once you've bought your B£s you've got to spend them, as they can't be exchanged back for sterling (unless you're a business). But that shouldn't be too much of an issue in Brixton, should it?
Set up a standing order from your sterling bank account online, by telephone, or at your local branch.

If you're not sure how much to transfer in each month, why not kick off with £20 - if you keep running out before the end of the month, you'll know it's time to up the game...
It may take between 4 and 12 hours for the credit to appear on your pay-by-text account - though it is usually much faster.

To top up via PayPal, please use the PayPal button at the bottom of this page (requires B£ sign-in).
Please note that PayPal will deduct a fee of 3.4% from the amount you pay. For example, if you top-up with £10, Paypal will deduct 54p and your account account will show a credit of B£e 9.46.
If you work for Lambeth Council you can opt to receive a % of your salary in B£es.
For Lambeth staff in particular, signing up and using the Brixton Pound is a brilliant way to activate the values of the co-operative council - investing in local, being part of a more connected, sustainable community, and embracing new technologies.
In order to sign up for payroll local, please send an email to [email protected] with the following information:
- Lambeth payroll number
- Amount of B£ you would like to receive
No amount too small or too big. It can be amended on a monthly basis, and stopped at any time, with a month’s notice.
Keeping on top of your balance
Noone wants to run out of B£s (we shudder at the thought), but if a payment takes you within B£2 of running out, you'll get a text alerting you that your balance is low.
Check your balance by either texting 'bal' to 07926 200 421, logging in to your account online here (or just download the app and you'll know your exact balance every time you open it up).
