B£e Pay by Text opens up more opportunities for local trade, making transactions easier and more instantaneous, removing the hassle of exchanging notes and allowing larger transactions to take place. Other advantages of the e-currency are:

• A convenient means of payment and a 10% bonus for thousands of Brixton and Lambeth residents, rewarding loyalty to your business
• Your business will feature on the B£ website, marketing materials and in press and media coverage
• If you do not have a credit/debit card payment facility, the B£e- offers a secure, low cost means of accepting electronic payment (there is no hardware required or need for phone line rental)
• Have a secure, online B£-bank account, where you can track your turnover of B£e.
• Get connected to a growing network of independent businesses in Brixton trading with each other and making the local economy stronger and more resilient.  Promote your products and services to all these businesses for no charge through the B£e ‘marketplace’ function.

The B£e is initially a 6-month pilot (Oct 2011 – Mar 2012) during which time membership will be free.  There is a 1.5% transaction fee for receiving payment via text and a 0.5% fee for receiving payment via online transfer (from either a customer or another business).  Businesses changing B£e back in to sterling will lose the 10% bonus offered to customers.
