The B£ project was initiated by a group of volunteers from Transition Town Brixton (TTB), a community-led organisation for action on energy issues and climate change.

nef (the new economics foundation), is one of the UK’s leading ‘think and do’ tanks.  nef conducts policy research and campaigns for social justice, well being and environmental sustainability.  nef is based in Vauxhall, Lambeth, not far from Brixton and supported the Brixton Pound project through advice and promotion. nef is also one of the partners behind the development of the B£e currency.

 

 

Lambeth Council have supported the Brixton £ over the past two years, providing funding and in-kind support.  Lambeth is directly supporting the B£e-currency pilot as one of its ‘Cooperative Council’ pilots.  Lambeth has a population of 270,000 with Brixton its administrative and commercial centre.
