The B£ group places great importance on local networks. It was born out of Transition Town Brixton’s currency group and is a member of Lambeth Voluntary Action Council who is promoting the Brixton Pound through their network of 900 local community groups.

This project has seen great support from the community; hundreds of people have already signed up to say they will buy and use B£s when they are released and we have received the support of over 100 local businesses with more signing up to accept B£ every day.

The committee has presented at many local meetings and continues to outreach to the Brixton community. Lambeth Borough Council is very supportive of the scheme and has pledged to promote its use internally and throughout the local businesses and organisations with whom they hold relationships.

The initiative fits very well with the Credit Crunch Task Force’s undertaking to ‘promote local exchange schemes in Lambeth’.

The support of our sponsors and supporters, and that of the local community and local businesses has been fundamental in the success of the B£. So too has the hard work of the B£ group.
